Bleak, Dismal, heartbreaking. That’s how I would describe Lancel’s world. from start to finish I immersed in a place and time that was so cruel and dark for a young boy and yet he kept finding these little sparks of light and hope that he clung too. It was beautiful. Lancel was such a strong character even after facing so many insurmountable odds, losing countless allies and friends for no other reason that the Master was heartless and power hungry.
Huw Millward’s Tommorow is Gone is a fantastic, unique read. I honestly felt like I’ve never read anything like it before. It wasn’t the usual overdone dystopian trope. The writing was straight forward and crisp. Yet you couldn’t help but be sucked into the Lancel’s reality once you started reading. for a debut novel, this was powerful stuff. Huw didn’t shy away from the endless gore that a war torn world would be privy too and I am glad for it.
10/10 would recommend.
