#8sunday snippets entry…Weekend Writing Warriors… The Trouble with Romance

Wow! It feels like forever since I’ve joined in on the Weekend Writing Warriors‘ 8snippet Sunday! I can’t wait to read the other amazing snippets by my fellow talented writers!! If you’re reading this and you have know idea what I’m talking about well then you should check out their website, http://www.wewriwa.com/ to read more about it and sign up! (Basically any Work In Progress you have going, you share 8 sentences from it after setting the scene, and receive feedback from other writers. It’s awesome!!)

Anyway I would like to introduce you all to my latest book called, The Trouble with Romance which is the sequel to my début  novel, The Trouble with Playing Cupid. In this scene, singer December Brown and her manager/ best friend, Clarissa Gregory get pulled over for accidentally running a red light.

The flashing lights coming up behind them alerted them that perhaps the law disagreed.

“Of course, it would be just my luck to have a police car behind me. Ugh,My registration is in glove box, can you hand it to me please?”
December silently did what she was told, She always felt very nervous whenever she
was pulled over. As if she was on the run from some horrendous crime and the law finally
caught up to her even though she had no priors and didn’t even litter. She barely even
jaywalked if she could help it, choosing rather to wait for the WALK sign before crossing the street.
“Dee, breathe. I might get a ticket at the most. It’ll be fine, okay?”  Clarissa soothed,
reaching over to gently squeeze December’s hand.

Hope you enjoyed it!! Check out the rest of the entries for #8Sunday at http://www.wewriwa.com/ just click the links 🙂

Thank you for reading!! xoxo

  1. You paint a good scene here, one most people have experienced. Welcome back, Tamara.

  2. Wow, I get so darn paranoid whenever I see a police car even driving down the highway behind me, lol, I can relate. Poor December, being such a celebrity also can lead to negative publicity for even the most minor infractions, I can understand her worries.
I love this line “The flashing lights coming up behind them alerted them that perhaps the law disagreed.”
    Great 8.

    • Thanks so much, Chelle!!! I can’t seem to leave a comment on your snippet post (it doesn’t give a reason, it just won’t acknowledge any link clicks I do on your page!) anyway but I loved it!!! It’s a bizarre position to be put in because it could be stockholm syndrome as to why she kissed him back or genuine feeling!

  3. Who doesn’t get a little nervous when a police car approaches? I love the name December.

  4. Welcome back. I like the way you add tension to the scene and reveal something about her character at the same time.

  5. Good to have you back! 🙂

I liked this 8. Like Chelle, I loved the opening line! I could feel December’s fear and anxiety. The tension built – I am looking forward to seeing what happens next.

  6. Ugh, I felt nervous right along with her. Great snippet!

  7. Well done, a very true to life moment, made me nervous just reading it (which is great)! Excellent excerpt and I’m wondering if there will be more to this encounter with the police.
