My Review

Millenia Black’s Raindrops on Roses was a great read. I really liked Priscilla, I thought she was sweet and I would be her friend if she was a real person. I also really liked Amber, I understood her pain and confusion and even her desperation. The author wrote them Amber in particularly very well. The entire read was quite good but I truly hated Michael. I have never disliked a character as much as I hated this lead male. Priscilla deserved better and Amber, my God, did she deserve so much more than to be tossed aside like so much garbage.

I’ve read other reviews calling Amber crazy and a stalker but honestly she was a woman who gave nearly 10 years worth of love into a relationship with a man who decided on a whim that he was bored of her and wanted the new young thing. He cast her aside and so abruptly, it wasn’t as if she took their relationship for granted or anything. He was a cretin who decided to pursue a grieving woman at the most vulnerable time, knowing fully well that he had a long term girlfriend that up until that moment he had no problem being with. Michael literally had no plans of leaving her until he decided to chase after Priscilla, who was an innocent in the whole thing.

I hope Michael becomes a better person in the next book because right now he’s the scum of the earth yet he claims to be a nice guy. argh I hated him but I loved the two lead females so much. I am very torn as you can tell. Kudos to the writer who made me feel so deeply about a character because that is pure talent right there!

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR MILLENIA BLACK

1- In less than 30 words, tell us about your book.

Sure! RAINDROPS ON ROSES is Book One of my brand new Favorite Things

Trilogy, featuring a razor-sharp love triangle you won’t soon forget!

2- Why did you write it? Or better yet where did the plot idea

come from?

I’m all for a good love triangle. I mean, who isn’t, right? So I decided to explore

the neurosis some women experience when the love of her life falls in love with

someone else. As you probably know, it can get pretty ugly sometimes. Some

women simply can’t let go.

3- Do you think life experiences, research or just your

imagination makes you a better a writer?

Actually, I think it’s a combination of all three, especially in developing the skill

for writing engaging and memorable stories.

4- If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Hmm…the very first thing? Book an extended stay in one of the world’s most

luxurious spa retreats and be completely MIA for a few weeks straight!

5- When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer

professionally?

I had no interest in being a writer until I was in college. A professor gave a

poetry assignment and we had to read it aloud in a presentation to the class.

Everyone’s reaction to that poem awakened the writing bug in me, which led to

my writing a short story that would later become my first novel, The Great

Pretender!

6- How did you come up with the title?

Well, I’ve always loved the Favorite Things song from “The Sound of Music” and

one day the idea for a chain of high-end boutique hotels popped into my head.

One Hollywood legend and three young hearts in love later—the Favorite Things

Trilogy was born!

7- Where can fans contact you? Are you on Facebook or Twitter?

Do you have a website?

I certainly do! Fans can link up with me on all of the above! I love hearing

from readers and I can’t WAIT to hear what they think of RAINDROPS ON

ROSES!

Official Web Site | Goodreads | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | YouTube |

Tsū

8- If you could only pick two people, living or dead, famous or

not, to read your book, who would they be and why?

Hmm…that’s a tough one. But I’d have to give one of the most obvious answers

imaginable and say Oprah for sure—I’m pretty sure she’d be up for reading

about a spicy love triangle! And for the second pick I’d go with fellow author

Jackie Collins—it’s no doubt right up her alley!

9- In one sentence, what advice would you give to an aspiring

author?

Best advice in one sentence: Make sure you’re actually a good writer…and never

stop improving your craft.

10- What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Don’t think I’d ever write one, but if I did I’d probably call it: A LIVING DREAM.

My Review

The short stories in this collection were really well written and I truly enjoyed reading each of them. Some of them were heartbreaking as in the case with Karma, but each were thought provoking and might not give you a horror movie type chill but it did make you think or raised the little hairs on the back of your neck after you from overthinking. It was very Bradbury-esque. One or 2 of them might even keep you up late at night as you let it simmer in your pysche but every single one of the short stories in Sahar Sabati’s Chills was a pleasure to read. I would definitely recommend.

Profile Picture - MediumAbout the author:
The author of Spirit Within Club and Chills: A Short Story Collection, Sahar was born the first of three siblings and the first of eight cousins who grew up together. Thrust in the role of head of the brood at a very early age, she honed her imagination by creating stories and plotlines the eight of them could play to all summer long. But soon, her interest in the paranormal took its toll on said brood. Worried on the long-term effects (as well as potential therapy costs) of this continual exposure to increasingly scary stories her oldest was (too) expertly weaving for their terrified ears, her mother gave her a typewriter – and a writer was born. Many books, a couple of screenplays, countless short stories, numerous essays, two blogs, and one Facebook page later, Sahar joined the ranks of Blogcritics, delving into the world of reviews.

Lola’s Blog Tours presents Marion G. Harmon’s Wearing the Cape…A Superhero Story

Wearing the Cape banner
This is my stop during the blog tour for Wearing the Cape by Marion G. Harmon. This blog tour is organized by Lola’s Blog Tours. The blog tour runs from 15 till 31 December, you can view the complete tour schedule on the website of Lola’s Blog Tours
So far this series contains 4 novels and one novella: Wearing the Cape, Bite Me, Villians Inc., Young Sentinels and Small Town Heroes.

Wearing the Cape coverWearing the Cape (Wearing the Cape #1)
by Marion G. Harmon

Genre: Superheroes/ Urban Fantasy
Age category: Older Young Adult/ New Adult

Blurb:
Who wants to be a superhero?

Hope did, but she grew out of it. Which made her superhuman breakthrough in the Ashland Bombing, just before starting her freshman year at the University of Chicago, more than a little ironic. And now she has some decisions to make. Given the code-name “Astra” and invited to join the Sentinels, Chicago’s premier super-team, will she take up the cape and mask and become a career superhero? Or will she get a handle on her new powers (super-strength has some serious drawbacks) and then get on with her life-plan?

In a world where superheroes join unions and have agents, and the strongest and most photogenic ones become literal supercelebrities, the temptation to become a cape is strong. But the price can be high—especially if you’re “outed” and lose the shield of your secret identity. Becoming a sidekick puts the decision off for awhile, but Hope’s life is further complicated when The Teatime Anarchist, the supervillain responsible for the Ashland Bombing, takes an interest in her. Apparently as Astra, Hope is supposed to save the world. Or at least a significant part of it.

Bite Me coverBite Me (Wearing the Cape #1.5)
By Marion G. Harmon

Genre: Superheroes/ Urban Fantasy
Age category: Older Young Adult/ New Adult

Blurb:
It was supposed to be a working vacation…

For Jacky Bouchard (aka, Artemis: vampire, former night-stalking dark avenger, and reluctant superhero), a trip to the Big Easy was a chance to solidify her new Bouchard identity, meet the grandmother she didn’t know she had, and do a favor for the New Orleans Police Department by helping them keep an eye on their local vampires.

Watching a bunch of fashion-obsessed goths with fangs should have been easy, but now she’s dressing in black and sleeping in a coffin even though living the whole Fiend of The Night stereotype makes her want to vomit. And for someone working undercover, she is getting attacked a lot. When Jacky learns that a master vampire capable of siring progeny with his blood (an urban myth—vampires don’t reproduce that way) may be haunting New Orleans, she decides to go hunting. But the streets of the French Quarter are dangerous when you don’t know who is hunting you, and Jacky finds herself in trouble up to her neck and needing all the help she can get…

By Marion G. Harmon

Genre: Superheroes/ Urban Fantasy
Age category: Older Young Adult/ New Adult

Blurb:
Astra has finished her training and is now a full-fledged Sentinel, but things are not going well. She suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and the public revelation of her relationship with Atlas has caused her popularity to nose-dive.

To complicate things, the Teatime Anarchist’s intervention has changed the course of events–leaving her with lots of knowledge about the way the future was before the Big One, a complete future-history that is now out of date.

And just when she thinks she’s getting a handle on things, unfolding events (a bank-robbery and a horrific murder) show that one of the nastier pieces of the old future isn’t so out of date after all; unless she solves a murder before it happens, Blackstone is going to die.

Young Sentinels coverYoung Sentinels (Wearing the Cape #3)
By Marion G. Harmon

Genre: Superheroes/ Urban Fantasy
Age category: Older Young Adult/ New Adult

Blurb:
The reward for a job well done is another job.

After the Sentinels’ takedown of the second incarnation of Villains Inc., things are relatively quiet in the great metropolis of Chicago. Astra, aka Hope Corrigan, is able to breathe a little, to hang out with her friends, and even to attend classes (where her professors are starting to think she is a myth). But Blackstone is loading more training and responsibilities on her, and converging events threaten the compromises she has made to balance her superhero career and student life and to protect her family and friends.

Worse, a new supervillain has come to town, and it will take all of Chicago’s capes to defeat the threat of the Green Man — if he can be defeated at all. When a new supervillain group begins targeting anti-superhuman groups, it becomes apparent that even the Sentinels are going to need help.

Because one thing is certain: Chicago is going to have a very bad day.

Small Town Heroes coverSmall Town Heroes (Wearing the Cape #4)
By Marion G. Harmon

Genre: Superheroes/ Urban Fantasy
Age category: Older Young Adult/ New Adult

Blurb:
Astra has become one of the most popular Sentinels in Chicago, past scandals notwithstanding, and is now the team leader of the Young Sentinels. But on their first big solo outing, the new junior Sentinels fall into a new scandal—one which could cost them the team. And Astra has a dream visit from Kitsune, the odd shapeshifter-thief who precipitated the battle between the Sentinels and Villains Inc. the year before. The dream warns of a fresh disaster, in a town Astra has never seen before and that may not actually exist.

Astra’s efforts to find the town from her dream leads to her “recruitment” by the shadowy Department of Superhuman Affairs, and she leaves the team behind in Chicago to learn more about the DSA’s secrets than are good for her, face old enemies, and discover a little town called Littleton. Fortunately for Astra, “leaving the team” does not mean she’s on her own.

Marion author pictureAbout the Author:
Marion G. Harmon has read and written all of his life (well, ever since first grade). He finished his first novel, Wearing the Cape, in 2010, and after failing to find an agent who knew what to do with a superhero story, decided to self-publish (mainly so he’d stop rewriting the book). He published through KDP and Createspace in mid 2011 with some success; Wearing the Cape earned a 4.5 star Amazon rating and spent most of 2012 ranked #1 in its Amazon category.

Marion has since written four more novels set in the same world (Bite Me: Big Easy Nights, Villains Inc., Young Sentinels, and Small Town Heroes), astonished each time at the enthusiastic response of his readers. He is currently working hard on a sixth book, this one also featuring Astra and company, while polishing the plot of his deeply unserious space epic, Worst Contact. Really.

He was attractive, talented…and way off limits.

Heather Gadway may have been a world-class college pitcher and a top university coach, but she’s a rank amateur when it comes to managing the Falcons, her father’s struggling minor league team. And when it comes to managing her aggravating attraction to Garrett Wolf, their talented new pitcher. It’s going to be difficult enough to make it as the first female manager in the league and prove to her overly critical father she’s worthy. No distractions. No missteps. And certainly no romances with players. Everything stands between them—including their troubled pasts—even as Heather’s world falls apart and Garrett’s the one who’s there to catch her…

Hi Everyone,  My name is Tamara Philip, the author of The Trouble with Playing Cupid, and I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing the incomparable, Karen Rock! The author of the fantastic, A LEAGUE OF HER OWN. Karen gave me some insight at what makes her tick while charming my socks off with her down to earth answers. Check out the interview for yourself! it’s guaranteed to make you smile!

In less than 30 words, tell us about your book, A LEAGUE OF HER OWN?

Ahhh! Pressure. (Wait- those words don’t count do they? lol) A LEAGUE OF HER OWN is about Heather Gadway, a collegiate softball coach who takes over her family’s minor league baseball team. She fights to prove her overly critical father wrong by succeeding with the team while battling her feelings for troubled ace pitcher Garrett Wolf.

why did you write it? or better yet where did the plot idea come from?

Since my husband is a baseball addict (watches, plays, coaches and referees) I spend a lot of time around the sport. I thought it’d be fun to give a woman the challenge of managing the boisterous, competitive men I see on the field. The fact that Heather has trust issues because she’s been raised by a prescription-drug addicted mother was based on a person I care deeply about… and the perfect person to help her confront her past and learn to have faith again is recovering alcoholic pitcher, Garrett Wolf.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Faint.. but miraculously I’d still manage to book a trip to stay in one of those huts in Fiji!

When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer professionally ?

I always wanted this career since my high school years, but didn’t have the courage to face the rejection. My sister-in-law, and now writing YA partner, Joanne Rock, kept encouraging me to give it a try. She’d been writing for Harlequin Historicals and Blaze for years. Finally, I worked up the courage to show her one of my stories and her encouragement and advice led me to take a chance and start submitting professionally.

If money was not an issue, what one thing would you love to do?

Buy a yacht with a full crew and sail around the world. What a great place to write… and travel!

Do you have a specific writing style? (ie which best selling author do you write most like?)

I’m a contemporary author who’s specializing in romance, although I hope to expand into Women’s Fiction and main stream literary works. I would say the authors I strive to be like are Nicholas Sparks, Elizabeth Strout, Annie Proulx, and Anne Tyler. They are geniuses at delving deep into relationships and people. Like them, I write character-driven novels with edge, high stakes, and emotional intensity.

If you could only pick two people, living or dead, famous or not, to read your book, who would they be and why?

Oprah Winfrey (She is such a passionate reader!) and John Green because his Young Adult novels are brilliant and his attitude is so positive and down-to-earth. His Vlogs always make me laugh.

Do you think Life experiences, research or just your imagination makes you a better a writer?

Tough one! I would say life experience, although when I was younger I would have said imagination since I hadn’t lived long enough to fully understand all sides to the issues I tackle in my novels. Research is always important and was especially so for this book. I had to nail down all of the rules and practices of baseball, including the slang, plays, positions and types of game-changing errors to make the book authentic.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Since one of my favorite books is The Hobbit, I would name my autobiography after Bilbo Baggins’ book: There and Back Again. I’ve always loved that title because life is a journey, but no matter how far we travel, we always come home.

Thank you so much for hosting me on your blog today, Tamara! Wishing you and all of your wonderful followers Happy Holidays 🙂
