exposed secrets 2

Thirty four year old Alexandria Marie Bell appears to have it all. She is beautiful and has started a highly successful law firm in Manhattan. The only thing missing is love. Finding a man is no problem. They are practically falling out of the sky. But she doesn’t want just any man. She wants Maxwell Pennington but that can never happen. He loves control almost as much as she does. Plus he is a Senior Partner in her law firm. To top it off Alex has too many ugly dark secrets that must never come to light. If they were to cross that line she runs the risk of Max learning who she really is and he would leave her anyway. It’s best to stay single and dream about the life that she will never have. Maxwell Pennington is sexy and brilliant. He could charm the panties off any women with the exception of one. Alex Bell. She wants him. That is not a secret but what he can’t figure out is why she is so determined to keep her distance. All he has to do is find a way to break through her walls. His luck with women has not always been the best. Partly due to his control issues and partly due to his choice of women. Alex is different though. She will not just allow him to control her and that is fine with him. Nothing turns him on more than a feisty woman. They would be perfect together. But there is more to Maxwell than meets the eye. He has secrets of his own.

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR MILLENIA BLACK

1- In less than 30 words, tell us about your book.

Sure! RAINDROPS ON ROSES is Book One of my brand new Favorite Things

Trilogy, featuring a razor-sharp love triangle you won’t soon forget!

2- Why did you write it? Or better yet where did the plot idea

come from?

I’m all for a good love triangle. I mean, who isn’t, right? So I decided to explore

the neurosis some women experience when the love of her life falls in love with

someone else. As you probably know, it can get pretty ugly sometimes. Some

women simply can’t let go.

3- Do you think life experiences, research or just your

imagination makes you a better a writer?

Actually, I think it’s a combination of all three, especially in developing the skill

for writing engaging and memorable stories.

4- If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Hmm…the very first thing? Book an extended stay in one of the world’s most

luxurious spa retreats and be completely MIA for a few weeks straight!

5- When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer

professionally?

I had no interest in being a writer until I was in college. A professor gave a

poetry assignment and we had to read it aloud in a presentation to the class.

Everyone’s reaction to that poem awakened the writing bug in me, which led to

my writing a short story that would later become my first novel, The Great

Pretender!

6- How did you come up with the title?

Well, I’ve always loved the Favorite Things song from “The Sound of Music” and

one day the idea for a chain of high-end boutique hotels popped into my head.

One Hollywood legend and three young hearts in love later—the Favorite Things

Trilogy was born!

7- Where can fans contact you? Are you on Facebook or Twitter?

Do you have a website?

I certainly do! Fans can link up with me on all of the above! I love hearing

from readers and I can’t WAIT to hear what they think of RAINDROPS ON

ROSES!

8- If you could only pick two people, living or dead, famous or

not, to read your book, who would they be and why?

Hmm…that’s a tough one. But I’d have to give one of the most obvious answers

imaginable and say Oprah for sure—I’m pretty sure she’d be up for reading

about a spicy love triangle! And for the second pick I’d go with fellow author

Jackie Collins—it’s no doubt right up her alley!

9- In one sentence, what advice would you give to an aspiring

author?

Best advice in one sentence: Make sure you’re actually a good writer…and never

stop improving your craft.

10- What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Don’t think I’d ever write one, but if I did I’d probably call it: A LIVING DREAM.

December deals with the fall out of Tom’s words…Weekend Writing Warriors…#8sunday

Hey All! I’m back again doing the #8sunday with the wonderful  Weekend Writing Warriors!  I really loved reading the other snippets! This week’s excerpt from my debut novella The Trouble with Playing Cupid shows December’s friend and bodyguard Damien trying to cheer her up about Tom.

“So listen… I’m sorry about that guy, We saw it on TV last night.”
“Oh well, it’s the story of my life. Girl passively stalks guy,Girl gets drunk and texts
traitorous talk show host, Boy thinks girl is vomitus.” December deadpanned. Damien
guffawed loudly despite himself and poked her lightly in the side, making her laugh.
“You’re too good for him anyway. The man has the ultimate poker face. I doubt he
even has emotions.”

Authors with Flair…Adrienne Ruvalcaba interview

Adrienne Ruvalcaba‘s The Prostitute’s Daughter is a gripping, intense, edgy and yet sweet novel. How does one book accomplish all of that? Perhaps it’s a reflection of its author and all the layers of her personality?  Luckily for me, she allowed me to interview her in all her mysterious glory…

In less than 30 words, tell us about The Prostitute’s Daughter?

The Prostitute’s Daughter is the story of a man who loves a woman who doesn’t believe in love. He loves her even when she isn’t capable of loving herself.

How long did it take you to write it?

It took me five years to write this book. I wrote it in my spare time while I was dealing with a things, including the end of an abusive marriage, going to engineering school full time while single parenting two small children, working, and coming to grips with serious health issues and a subsequent diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Why did you write it? or better yet where did the plot idea come from?

The plot idea came from my intimate experience with survivors of abuse. At a young age, I witnessed a very dear loved one go through unspeakable abuse. I also witnessed this person’s metamorphosis into a completely different person. This person never received the love they needed and deserved, and, as a result, they never healed properly. I too am a survivor of abuse, but I was able to find peace and healing through love and support. The redeeming power of love is sometimes the only way to drive out certain kinds of darkness in one’s soul. The Prostitute’s Daughter is a story that captures that concept and gives it an emotionally fulfilling little fairytale twist.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

I’m definitely more of a doer than a talker. I’m a person of few spoken words, but I’m very good at plodding along like a machine and accomplishing one small, manageable task after another. I’m all about the daily grind.

Authors with Flair…Neva Squires Rodriguez interview

Have you ever read a book so emotionally charged, so captivating that you think to yourself, how did the author come up with this plot? or I’d love to pick the author’s brain? Well here’s your chance…

Neva Squires-Rodriguez, the author of the riveting Liliana series, has given me the inside scoop on what makes her tick and how her twisted mind created such an electrifying debut novel. (Don’t forget to follow her on Twitter @NevaRodriguez22

In less than 30 words tell us about Liliana.

Liliana” is a hot and steamy romance that starts off with a bang and is filled with deception, unexpected twists, and endless suspense!

The Liliana series is in 3 books, how long did it take you to write the first novel?
Yes, book one took nearly fifteen years. I kept putting it off due to raising my children, going back to school and ultimately laziness.

Why did you write it? Or better yet where did the plot idea come from?
The idea came from a re-occurring dream. Every night I tried to push the dream further, until finally I decided to write it down on paper.

When you decided to become a writer, why didn’t you choose a pseudonym?
I didn’t choose a pseudonym because I wanted everyone to know who I was. I wanted to be remembered and I wanted my readers to know where my roots were. I added my maiden name in because I wanted to show my readers that I’m multi-cultural.

When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer professionally?
I actually realized that I wanted to be a professional writer when I was in fifth grade. I entered a writing contest with a friend and our story won first place. A team of actors played out our story in front of the school. It was definitely a memorable experience for me.

If you could only pick two people, living or dead, famous or not, to read your book, who would they be and why?

Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz and Audre Lorde, because these are two of the female writers that I respect and enjoy the writing of most. I would definitely want to find out what feedback they had for me.

Which is worse, failing or never trying?

Definitely never trying. When you think that you are going to fail, the worst that can happen is that you can be right? You could fail, you already know that and have prepared yourself for that. You might as well try and confirm your failure. (A little English humor there.) As an author, I have failed numerous times. I must have sent out at least fifty query letters and it would have been so easy to give up and crawl back under my rock, but God inspired me to push on and hey, check it out, I found a great publisher who valued my twisted ideas. Always give it a try and never give up-never.

Clarissa tries to make amends… #8sunday… Snippet #3…8/10/14

Hi Everyone! I’m back again doing the #8sunday with the Weekend Writing Warriors! I really enjoyed it the other weekend.  I really loved reading the other snippets! This week’s excerpt from my debut novella The Trouble with Playing Cupid shows the scene where December’s best friend and agent tries to make up for her part in the failed love match.

“Yes, Clarissa? What is it?” She kept her voice cold.

“You can’t stay mad at me forever, you know.” Her best friend said anxiously.

“Well I’m just going to have to give it a good ol’ college try, now won’t I?”

“I’m sorry, okay? I shouldn’t have trusted Trace to handle that with tact and subtlety. It was my fault. Don’t blame Terrence.” Clarissa bleated.

“I didn’t. I knew it was you and that butthead from the start.”

Tom and December meet face to face..Finally! #8sunday… Snippet #1…7/28/14

Hi Everyone! This is my first time doing the #8sunday with the Weekend Writing Warriors, which is very exciting! This is a snippet from my debut novella The Trouble with Playing Cupid. This scene is when the two main characters, Tom Elmswood and December Brown meet face to face for the first time. The book begins with one friend’s meddling that goes awry and this second attempt, by another friend, doesn’t seem to be going to well either:

She visibly shook herself from her stupor, and unconsciously started to unwind her sloppy plaits. A gorgeous man at your door, who wouldn’t want to try to salvage their appearance?

“Since you’re already here, come on in. Please.” Tom’s tentative smile widened, in relief at her invitation.

“I feel like a vampire. You’ve invited me in, there’s no going back.”

“That’s not a comforting thought in the least, Tom.” she retorted, dryly. Normally she’d have been guffawing like a maniac since he was obviously trying to alleviate the tension. Her dream guy was right in front of her, but all she wanted to do was smack someone.
